Tech@Ingenium

The Tech@Ingenium is a space for experiencing and conceptualizing creative ideas with workstations equipped with artificial intelligence and virtual reality. Concept and Creation Rooms are available for users to conduct individual or group brainstorming sessions and idea generation.

 

Facilities and services include:
  • Multiple AI tools, VR headsets and accessories, including AI/VR workstations, the HTC Vive Pro, NVIDIA Jetson TX2 Developer Kit, Google AIY Vision Kits and Voice Kits, Google Home Mini, etc.
  • Space for brainstorming, instructional classes and other teaching/learning activities
  • Consultation sessions with technical expertise by appointment

Concept and Creation Rooms

The Ingenium offers five Concept and Creation Rooms for HKU current students and staff. Its environment and ambience provide opportunities for users collaborative learning to brainstorm new concepts, share ideas, and work in groups. Online reservation of these facilities is available and users should read the booking policy before making the reservation.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Commons [Coming Soon]

The Artificial Intelligence Commons offers a space, facilities, and software to explore work in Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI has been adopted by many disciplines, and with the advance of computing technology, deep learning is not out of reach. In the commons, there is a range of facilities for you to explore learning, teaching and research with AI, e.g. Google AIY Vision kits, Google AIY Voice kits, AI developer kit and powerful workstations with deep learning Lambda Tensorbooks with GPU cards. You can transform your creative and innovative concepts into AI models, train the models through deep learning, and realize your projects here.

Google AIY Vision Kit

An intelligent camera that can recognize objects, detect faces, and emotions. The kit includes all of the components needed to assemble the basic kit that works with the Google Assistant SDK as well as on-device image & vision recognition with TensorFlow using the Intel Movidius Myriad Vision Processing Unit (VPU) hardware assist.

Virtual Reality (VR) Space

Virtual reality (VR) is a realistic and immersive simulation of a three-dimensional environment, created using interactive software and hardware, and experienced or controlled by movement of the body. It provides a space for students, faculty and staff to create immersive content and experience virtual reality as a tool for teaching, learning, and hands-on design. It is equipped with AI/VR workstations and VR Head Mount Display (HMD) devices which provides users with cutting edge tools of advanced technologies.

Terms of Services

  • The services include the loan of the VR wireless headset, the powerful desktop and the development platform.
  • The VR playing is only confined within the space defined virtually and physically. To ensure safety, users should not play outside the VR playing space.
  • As for the first-time user of VR services, please play slowly and adapt to the virtual environment.
  • During the VR playing, if you feel sick/tired/strain on eye/headache etc, stop and take some rest immediately.
  • It is recommended for all users to take rest after 15 minutes of continuous playing.
  • For lengthy development of VR project, it is recommended to view the virtual objects on the monitor/TV before trying the head mount display.
  • The computing facilities of the VR are quite powerful, however, the Library has no guarantee on any computing requirement from the users.
  • Users are responsible for the backup of their VR projects/datasets and the Library will not be responsible for any data loss during the use of the facilities.
