The University of Hong Kong Libraries Strategic Plan, 2015 to 2020

 

Vision

The Libraries advances the teaching, learning, research and knowledge exchange pursuits of the University through its outstanding resources, people-centred services as well as its innovative and collaborative approaches.

Mission

The University of Hong Kong Libraries shares with the University its aspiration to attain international distinction.  To support the University’s endeavours we work collaboratively across the institution to build, preserve and facilitate access to resources required, provide services that enable resource discovery and application, as well as create diverse physical and virtual environments conducive to different learning styles and intellectual exchange.

Strategic Objectives

In order to advance our Vision and Mission, our activities are founded upon five key objectives that will form the basis of our strategic direction for the coming five years.  These are:

  1. Ensure access to a rich and diverse base of resources that serve to enhance the University’s endeavours;
  2. Provide services that support the full range of the University's activities and facilitate user independence;
  3. Ensure inclusive and diverse physical and virtual environments that enable active, independent and collaborative learning; 
  4. Engage the broader community in programmes and collaborative initiatives that complement University priorities; and
  5. Nurture an organizational culture that equips staff with the skills required to support a dynamic research library in a rapidly changing environment.

Operational Priorities, 2019 - 2020

Objective 1: Ensure access to a rich and diverse base of resources that serve to enhance the University's endeavours

  1. To implement Ex Libris Leganto for creating, accessing, and managing course resource lists
  2. Develop a plan to preserve and promote thematic library collections in multimedia formats
  3. Set up additional storage for library materials to cater for relegation needs in the coming five years

Objective 2: Provide services that support the full range of the University's activities and facilitate user independence

  1. Create mobile platform to enable library users to pay fines, find seats, locate library collections
  2. Conduct a biannual user survey

Objective 3: Ensure inclusive and diverse physical and virtual environments that enable active, independent and collaborative learning

  1. Revamp the library webpage to improve user experience
  2. Campaign to make the Libraries a better learning space
  3. Organize workshops and a competition to engage users in geo-tagging the Libraries

Objective 4: Engage the broader community in programmes and collaborative initiatives that complement University priorities

  1. Hold the 2020 HKU Annual Library Leadership Institute
  2. Hold a Library Leadership Institute for librarians in China
  3. Design a new model of Library endowment fund for securing and supporting our future model of Library endowment fund for securing and supporting our future

Objective 5: Nurture an organizational culture that equips staff with the skills required to support a dynamic research library in a rapidly changing environment

  1. Undertake business process re-engineering to identify new, efficient, and when possible, collaborative workflows – Review of delivery service between library locations
  2. Transform 4/F Common Room with Google Office design to enhance staff engagement
  3. Develop a plan to integrate good practices of library assessment into various library functions
