Library Closure on Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Establishment Day

July 1, 2017 (Saturday) will be a General Holiday.  The University Libraries will be closed on that day.

The Library Corner on G/F and the Study Zone on Level 3, Main Library, will remain open for the use by CURRENT STAFF and CURRENT STUDENTS ONLY.

Display of New Additions Suspension-14 June 2017

Migration to new Library System and HKALL book requesting

On 17th  July 2017, all eight UGC-funded university libraries will adopt a shared integrated library system (ILS) and discovery system to replace eight stand-alone library systems. The new shared ILS will allow patrons to search, request, and access collections from the eight libraries seamlessly. More information is available here:lib.hku.hk/newils/index.html.

To facilitate the implementation of our new shared ILS, please take note of the important dates affecting HKALL book requesting:

Monday 5th June Last day to request for HKALL items
Tuesday 6th June – Monday 17th July Temporary suspension of HKALL request service. Interlibrary Loans (ILLiad) service is available to eligible patrons during the interim period
Thursday 15th June Last day to return HKALL items
Monday 17th July New shared ILS goes into operation

2017 International Proverse Prize for unpublished fiction, non-fiction or poetry

The International Proverse Prize for unpublished (book-length) fiction, non-fiction or poetry, 2017 opened for entry on 14 April 2017. Please review the details of the Prize and submit your entries now or share the Prize details with someone who would be interested in entering.

If you have written or are about to complete an unpublished book length work of fiction or non-fiction or poetry, consider this opportunity.

DEADLINE for completed entry forms / fees  / work to be received in Hong Kong: 14 June 2017.

  • Entry is open to all aged 18 or above on the date they sign the Entry Documents, irrespective of residence, nationality or citizenship.
  • Translations into English are welcome. Work may be previously edited, acknowledging the editor.
  • The winner receives publication of the entered work and HK$10,000. (HKD7.80 approximately = US$1.00) Additional publication prizes may be awarded.

  • The entry fee is HK$320.00 (three hundred and twenty Hong Kong Dollars) or GBP35.00 (thirty five pounds sterling).

Library Opening Hours during the Labour Day and Buddha’s Birthday

1 May 2017 (Labour Day)

Main Library, AV Collection, Special Collections, Collaboration Zone on Level 3, and Fung Ping Shan Library will be open from 10 am to 7 pm.

Law Library and Medical Library will be open from 10 am to 5 pm.

Dental Library, Education Library, and Music Library will be closed.

 

3 May 2017 (Buddha’s Birthday)

Main Library and Fung Ping Shan Library will be open from 8:30 am to 6 am of the following day.

AV Collection, Special Collections, and Collaboration Zone on Level 3, Main Library will be open from 10 am to 7 pm.

Law Library will be open from 10 am to 5 pm.

Dental Library, Education Library, and Music Library will be closed.

Medical Library will be open from 10 am to 6 am of the following day.

Prelude to Celebrating 100 years of Teacher Education:

Naming Ceremony of Tin Ka Ping Education Library

The Education Library will be closed on 12 April 2017 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm to facilitate the venue set-up and for the naming ceremony.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.

On the afternoons of 11 and 12 April 2017, some intermittent noise will be expected for the venue set-up and restoration. Users may obtain complimentary ear plugs from the information counter.

Extended Opening Hours 2 – 20 May 2017 at University Libraries

The Main Library and Medical Library will extend the opening hours for the coming Revision Week & Assessment Period from 11 pm, 2 May 2017 to 6 am, 20 May 2017:

Main Library: Daily:  8:30am – 6am of the following day

Opening hours for Special Collections, AV Collection, and Level 3 Collaboration Zone will remain unchanged.

Medical Library: Monday – Friday: 8:15 am – 6 am of the following day

Saturday: 8:30 am – 6 am of the following day

Sunday: 10 am – 6 am of the following day

All service counters will be closed outside the normal operating hours.  In order to thoroughly clean the library, all users and their possessions must be cleared by 6 am each morning.  Items not removed from each desk will be removed by staff on duty and can be collected at:

Main Library:

After 9 am (10 am on Sundays and public holiday) at the Lending Services Counter on the 2/F;

Yu Chun Keung Medical Library:

After 10 am at the Circulation Counter.

During the extended opening hours, contract security guards will be stationed in these two libraries to provide basic security services.  When the circulation counters are closed, users can check out/in books using the self-check stations (2/F and 4/F, Main Library, and G/F, Medical Library). While there is no counter service, all public computers, printers and copiers will be available but no refill of printing paper will be provided.
