Reading List
ReadingList is a service that enables instructors to curate and manage course reading materials to ensure students can access essential readings and materials with a few clicks. Turnitin and Turnitin Draft Coach
Turnitin is an internet-based similarity detection service. Teachers can request a tutorial on how to use Turnitin, from creating an instructor’s account to using the newest AI Writing Detection feature. Besides, instructors and students alike can use Turnitin Draft Coach on their Microsoft Word Online documents for similarity checks, citation checks, and grammar guides. Textbook Adoption and Purchase Service
The Academic and Professional Book Centre (A&P) (https://apbookshop.com/hku) provides textbook purchase service for HKU teachers and students. Teaching staff may fill in textbook adoption information on the application form at https://apbookshop.com/HKU/EN/Adoption/Contact. Students can purchase textbooks via the platform once the book lists are available.
Services and Resources to Support Student Learning
General Training and Workshops
When every semester starts, general training and workshops are provided in the library to enhance students’ information literacy skills through onsite and online courses covering database navigation, citation management topics, a brief introduction of library resources and services. All students are welcome.
Thematic Training and Workshops
Every semester, limited quotas of face-to-face training and workshops in Digital Tools/Hacks for Effective Learning and Research will be provided in the Main Library. Topics include but is not limited to EndNote, Turnitin and Turnitin Draft Coach, Find@HKUL, and Database Training series. Collections
E-Resources
E-resources cover a wide range of online resources, including e-books, e-journals, and databases. Access all subscribed HKU e-resources at https://libguides.lib.hku.hk/az.php (HKU Portal Login required).
Physical Collections
The Main Library comprises a collection on the arts, education, humanities, architecture, social sciences, and science & technology. It also houses the (1) Special Collections, which focuses on Hong Kong materials and other specialised collections, including Western rare books on China. The (2) AV Collection holds a collection of audio-visual items on an open shelf. Course Reserves materials are held in the (3) Self-service Collection room on the 2/F of the Main Library (New Wing).
