「嘉業片羽」展覽講述古籍跨越數百年的遞藏歷程，以及歷代藏書家守護典籍、傳承文化的故事。一本古籍的裝幀結構是其延續生命的重要關鍵。配合「嘉業片羽」展覽，香港大學圖書館文獻保護與修復中心特別推出古籍裝幀工作坊，帶領參加者走近中國傳統製書工藝。

中國古籍的裝幀形式歷經長期演變，由卷軸裝、經摺裝、蝴蝶裝、包背裝，發展至明清時期廣泛流行的線裝書，各具時代特色。其中，四眼線裝是中國傳統書籍最具代表性的裝幀形式之一，不僅展現精巧的製書技藝，也體現實用與美學兼備的設計智慧。 

本工作坊將介紹中國古籍裝幀的發展歷程及線裝書的基本結構，並透過親手製作一本四眼線裝書，讓參加者在穿線訂頁的過程中，體驗傳統製書工藝，感受古籍文化的獨特魅力。

工作坊時長60分鐘，內容包括 :

The “Gleanings from the Jiaye Library” exhibition traces the remarkable journeys of rare books across centuries and celebrates the generations of bibliophiles who cherished and preserved them. Beyond the texts themselves, the physical structure of a book plays a vital role in ensuring their survival. To complement the exhibition, the Preservation Centre of HKU Libraries is pleased to offer a hands-on workshop on traditional Chinese bookbinding.

Traditional Chinese bookbinding has evolved over centuries and reflects the rich heritage of Chinese book culture. Among its many forms, four-hole thread binding is one of the most iconic and enduring styles. Combining practicality with elegance, it was widely used in Chinese books during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

This workshop will briefly introduce the development and key features of traditional Chinese bookbinding. Participants will then create their own four-hole thread-bound volume, gaining firsthand experience of the stitching and binding techniques that have been used for centuries. Through this process, participants will develop a deeper appreciation of traditional bookmaking and the enduring cultural legacy of Chinese rare books.

Duration: 60 minutes

Workshop content includes:

• Brief introduction to the evolution of traditional Chinese bookbinding
• Hands-on experience in making one four-hole thread-bound book
