About the Speaker
陳萬雄博士,廣東東莞人。1973年畢業於香港中文大學歷史系,1975年獲中大研究院哲學碩士, 1980年修畢日本廣島大學博士課程,1989年獲香港大學博士學位。1980年,陳先生入職商務印書館 (香港)有限公司,曾任編輯、編輯室主任及副總編輯。
現任商務印書館(香港)有限公司董事總經理兼總編輯、商務印書館電子商貿控股有限公司副董 事長兼行政總裁、香港聯合出版集團副董事長兼副總裁。曾任公職包括:香港出版學會會長、 香港特別行政區政府版權審裁處成員。現任中英文教出版事業協會主席、香港出版總會理事、 香港出版學會執行委員、香港藝術發展局委員、香港康樂及文化事務署歷史顧問(教育及推廣活動)。 2002年獲選為香港出版學會會士。
Dr. Chan Man-hung read history at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and received a B.A. in 1973 and a M.A. in 1975 there. He completed successfully studies for his doctorate at the University of Hiroshima in 1980. He took his Ph.D. from the University of Hong Kong in 1989. Dr. Chan specializes in the history of modern Chinese culture and thought, and has written three books and a large number of articles on this subject.
At present, Dr. Chan is General Manager and Chief Editor of the Commercial Press (Hong Kong) Ltd. He is also Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Commercial Press E-Business Holdings Ltd. Besides, he is Vice-Chairman and Vice-President of the Sino United Publishing (Holdings) Ltd. As a professional publisher, Dr. Chan has taken on a major role in many professional organizations, which include: Chairman of the Anglo-Chinese Textbooks Publishers Organisation, Director of the Hong Kong Publishing Federation, Executive Committee Member of the Hong Kong Publishing Professional Society (he is also the former Chairman of this Society), Part-time Member of Central Policy Unit of the HKSAR, Member of Hong Kong Arts Development Council, History Adviser (Education and Outreach Services) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the HKSAR. He was elected as a Fellow of the Hong Kong Publishing Professionals Society in 2002.
