HKU Libraries Food and Drink Policy
To protect the Libraries' collections, furnishings and equipment, no food is permitted in the public areas, including study rooms and carrels, of the Libraries. Water is permitted in the Libraries provided that they are transported in and consumed from *spill-proof containers only.
The food and drink policy is formulated to ensure a clean study and work environment for users, to aid in preservation and care of collections and to maintain a pest-free building. Users must adhere to the policy. Failure to do so will result in the offender being asked to leave the Library and further disciplinary action.
They must have a lid that can be fastened securely so that the contents do not spill. Examples are:
- Bottles with spill-proof lids
- Sport bottles
- Cups or mugs with secure lids
- Thermos bottles
Containers that are not spill-proof include:
- Paper or Styrofoam cups with or without lids
- Aluminum cans
- Open cups or mugs
