Bad Weather Arrangement

Special arrangements are made for the Main Library and Branch libraries when Typhoon or Rainstorm Signals are hoisted or lowered:

 

  • Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above
Time of hoisting or Lowering Library will

Hoisted before opening hours or

a Pre-No 8 Special announcement is made by the Hong Kong Observatory 2 hours or more before library is open

Remain closed

Hoisted when Library is open

Close immediately

Lowered 3 hours or more before closing

Open as soon as practicable within 2 hours

Lowered less than 3 hours before closing

Remain closed

 

  • Black Rainstorm Warning
Time of hoisting or Lowering Library will

Hoisted before opening hours

Remain closed

Hoisted when Library is open

Remain open

Lowered 3 hours or more before closing

Open as soon as practicable within 2 hours

Lowered less than 3 hours before closing

Remain closed

 

  • Arrangements for Library Corner and the Study Zone (24-hrs)

Library Corner and the Study Zone will be closed when Typhoon Signal no.8 or Black Rainstorm Warning is hoisted before the opening hours. If the Black Rainstorm Warning is in force when the 24-hours opening arrangement is in effect, the area will remain open. You are advised to stay indoors or take shelter for your own safety until the warning has been cancelled or the heavy rain has passed.

The 24-hours study area will re-open as scheduled hours when the Typhoon Signal no.8 is lowered or Black Rainstorm Warning is cancelled.
