The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Peter E. Sidorko as Librarian of the HKU Libraries by the University Council to succeed Dr. Tony Ferguson, who has retired from the post.
Mr. Sidorko’s term of office started on 1 January 2011. He has been serving the University as Deputy Librarian since December 2001. Mr. Sidorko possesses substantial professional experience in academic libraries as well as rich knowledge and solid experience in the application of information technology in higher education. Apart from a strong commitment to teaching and learning, research and knowledge exchange, Mr. Sidorko has outstanding management, communications and people skills.
The appointment of Mr. Sidorko has been made after a global search by a Search Committee of the University chaired by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Lap-Chee Tsui.
Professor Tsui was very pleased with the appointment. He thanked Dr. Tony Ferguson for his many years of service to the University and for his contributions in developing and strengthening its libraries.
Professor Tsui added that he believed that under the leadership of Mr Sidorko, HKU Libraries would continue to provide the best service to all members of the University community.
"The University Libraries will be able to play an active and important role in supporting the University’s strategic directions, e-learning, e-scholarship and the future operation of the Learning Commons," Professor Tsui said.
