E-Learning Lab is a multi-purpose mini-theatre designed for library instruction, conferences and seminars. The room has a seating capacity of 46, and each seat is equipped with a high-end notebook computer connected to the Internet.
The VR Salon supports a small group of 2-4 people to view 360 immersive video in a dome setting system with surrounding cinematics of 4K resolution images.

Po Chung's Personal Development Collection & Po Chung's CEO Collection
These two collections donated by Mr Chung Po Yang (Po Chung) are shelved on G/F New Wing. The intention of Mr Chung in offering this collection is to help open people’s minds to “the science of life management and the art of living”.
The Think Tank comprised of the Quiet Study area and the adjacent Deep Quiet Study area, the Special Collections Joseph Needham Room, and the Seminar Room. The Think Tank lies central on the Ground Floor both geographically and psychologically.
Eligible users can check out and check in their own library books using self-check stations.

This kiosk provides the collection and floor guide, as well as the latest news of HKUL.
The ground floor of the Main Library (except for the E-learning Lab and Joseph Needham Room) is open for overnight use. Services include individual/group study spaces, research carrels (Note: priority is given to those students assigned research carrels), access to PCs, printing and photocopying. Borrowing/Returning services are unavailable during the overnight opening hours.
Beyond the opening hours of the Main Library, HKU staff and students can access the overnight facility via the secure swing door at the G/F ancillary entrance. The area will be closed for cleaning between 7:30am and 8:30am from Monday to Saturday and between 9:00am and 10:00am on Sunday. Please consult webpage for opening hours of Overnight Open Area.
Book drops are available at the entrance. The following items must be returned to the service point from which they were borrowed:
• Audio-visual items
• Equipment
• Items with accompanying materials
• Items with poor condition
• Items from Interlibrary loans and HKALL
• Items with loan periods of 7 days or less (e.g. course reserve materials and serials)
• Items from Special Collections
• Music scores
• Manually loaned items
Self-service photocopiers and printers are operated on a quota-based system, uPrint. To purchase or top up the printing units, library users (HKU staff/students) may make use of the uPrint App or the Add Value Machine (all users). The cost is HK$3 for 10 units or HK$30 for 100 units.
Eligible users can browse current e-newspapers subscribed by HKU Libraries using E-newspaper Viewing stations.
Research carrels with lockers in the Deep Quiet Study area of G/F are available for higher degree students enrolled in Master or Doctoral programmes of the University of Hong Kong for study and research inside the Main Library. These may be reserved for semi-monthly basis.
