{"id":946,"date":"2017-11-07T17:14:40","date_gmt":"2017-11-07T09:14:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lib.hku.hk\/newsblog\/?p=946"},"modified":"2017-11-07T17:14:40","modified_gmt":"2017-11-07T09:14:40","slug":"perus-memory-1890-1950-photo-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lib.hku.hk\/newsblog\/?p=946","title":{"rendered":"Peru\u2019s Memory: 1890 \u2013 1950 Photo Exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-947\" src=\"http:\/\/lib.hku.hk\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/201711-MemoryPeru_roller-300x83.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"83\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lib.hku.hk\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/201711-MemoryPeru_roller-300x83.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lib.hku.hk\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/201711-MemoryPeru_roller.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Peru\u2019s Memory: 1890 \u2013 1950<\/em> Photo Exhibition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In collaboration with the Consulate General of Peru in Hong Kong and Macao, the Main Library is pleased to present <strong><em>Peru\u2019s Memory: 1890 \u2013 1950 <\/em><\/strong>photo exhibition at the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Floor Atrium\/Exhibition Area of the Main Library from 13\u2013 30 November 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty-three photographs have been selected from the \u201c<em>Fotografia Memoria del Per\u00fa\u201d <\/em>by photographers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries (1890-1950) capturing the history and everyday life in Peru, including the best works of the \u201c<em>Golden Age of Peruvian Photography<\/em>\u201d<sup> 1<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to these images and to many others like those, Peru, as we know it today, began to emerge before itself as an apprehensible reality. The natural wonders of its territory, the great monuments of its pre-Columbian past, the ancestral customs interwoven with the modernizing aspirations, the advance of the capitalist economy, and the social conflicts of a national society in formation.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Peru\u2019s Memory: 1890 \u2013 1950<\/em> <\/strong>photos allows us to revive some of the construction process and to value the talent of masters of the lens such as Max T. Vargas, Martin Chambi, Carlos and Miguel Vargas, Juan Manuel Figueroa Aznar, Sebastian Rodriguez, Baldomero Alejos, and Walter 0. Runcie, to mention only some of the most conspicuous in this selection.\u201d<sup>1<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Peter E.
