In celebration of International Preservation Week, HKU Libraries warmly invite you to join the Conservation Laboratory Open House on 26 April (Sunday) and 29 April (Wednesday) 2026.

Since its establishment in 2010, the Preservation Centre has been dedicated to safeguarding library and archive collections, ensuring their longevity and accessibility for present and future users. This year marks an important milestone with the opening of our new conservation laboratory in the Main Library—the first open‑view Book and Paper Conservation Laboratory in Hong Kong, offering a rare opportunity to observe conservation work in action.

As part of the celebration, the Open House provides a behind‑the‑scenes look into preservation and conservation, and introduces the first‑ever “Conservation Clinic”—a special Preservation Week highlight that connects the public directly with professional conservators.

What will you experience?

45-minute Guided Conservation Laboratory Tour, with live conservation technique demonstration
“Conservation Clinic”: one-on-one consultation on paper-based collection
Bring a book, archive, photograph, or artwork from your family or community collection and receive one-on-one preservation advice from our conservators during a pre-booked time slot. Gain practical guidance on everyday care and long-term preservation.
“Unlocking the Secrets of Conservation in 10-minute”, presented by LCSD Conservation Office via 8 display panels onsite.

Each application admits one participant only. Please refrain from submitting duplicate applications.

為響應國際文物保護週，現誠邀您參加於2026年4月26日（星期日）及4月29日（星期三）舉行的文獻修復實驗室開放日。

香港大學圖書館文獻保護與修復中心自2010年成立以來，一直致力於結合中西方的保護與修復技術，提升各類館藏的可使用性。今年二月，位於圖書館總館內的全新修復實驗室正式啟用，標誌著中心的重要里程碑。該實驗室採用全透明玻璃設計，為全港首個「全視角」文獻修復實驗室，讓讀者和公衆可以近距離觀摩修復師的日常工作。

在開放日活動中，您將有機會參觀本館新設的文獻修復實驗室，深入了解文獻保護與修復工作的獨特性與重要性。活動期間亦將首次推出 「紙質文物診所」，讓參與者與修復師直接交流，為您的藏品提供實用的日常保護與專業的修復建議。

活動內容包括：

修復實驗室導賞團及文獻修復技術現場示範
「紙質文物診所」: 一對一紙質藏品諮詢
參加者可攜同書籍、檔案、照片或書畫作品等紙質藏品，於預約時段內與本中心修復師作一對一諮詢，獲取實用的日常保護與專業的修復建議。
「文物修護的藝術與科學: 十分鐘解讀文物修護」，活動現場亦設有康樂及文化事務署（LCSD）文物修復辦事處的巡迴展覽。
