Funded by the UGC SEN grants, two Special Study Rooms are equipped with furniture and equipment to support Special Educational Needs (SEN) students’ learning at HKU.
Exhibition and Event Space
The Ingenium’s flexible exhibition and event spaces can transform through folding partitions to accommodate conferences, events, and workshops. The exhibition space features a projection wall and a hanging system for large exhibitions. When these spaces are not being used for events and exhibitions, mobile furniture can accommodate small-group discussions and learning.
Virtual reality (VR) is a realistic and immersive simulation of a three-dimensional environment, created using interactive software and hardware, and experienced or controlled by movement of the body. It provides a space for students, faculty and staff to create immersive content and experience virtual reality as a tool for teaching, learning, and hands-on design. It is equipped with AI/VR workstations and VR Head Mount Display (HMD) devices which provides users with cutting edge tools of advanced technologies.
The Ingenium offers five Concept and Creation Rooms for HKU current students and staff. Its environment and ambience provide opportunities for users collaborative learning to brainstorm new concepts, share ideas, and work in groups.
Special Study Room 2 provides three study carrels for patrons with special education needs to support quiet, individual studying and research.
The Artificial Intelligence Commons offers a space, facilities, and software to explore work in Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI has been adopted by many disciplines, and with the advance of computing technology, deep learning is not out of reach. In the commons, there is a range of facilities for you to explore learning, teaching and research with AI, e.g. Google AIY Vision kits, Google AIY Voice kits, AI developer kit and powerful workstations with deep learning Lambda Tensorbooks with GPU cards. You can transform your creative and innovative concepts into AI models, train the models through deep learning, and realize your projects here.
Eligible users can check out and check in their own library books using self-check stations.
Self-service photocopiers and printers are operated on a quota-based system, uPrint. To purchase or top up the printing units, library users (HKU staff/students) may make use of the uPrint App or the Add Value Machine (all users) located next to the Self-Check Station. The cost is HK$3 for 10 units or HK$30 for 100 units.
Newly catalogued books are placed weekly on display shelves near the 2/F library entrance. For users' convenience, new books can be borrowed while they are being displayed. If you wish to borrow any of those books, please use the self-check station or take them to the Lending Services Counter to check them out.
The Lending Services Counter provides services related to loan and return of materials, as well as access to library facilities. It also provides adding value to Octopus cards and Lost & Found services throughout the counter hours.

JULAC Library Card holders can use this barcode scanner to access the Library after registering the card in the Enquiries Counter.
Stand-alone iPads are available for direct access to the HKU Libraries' OPAC, electronic indexes and abstracts.
Special Study Room 1 provides facilities and equipment for students with visual impairment, including a braille embosser, an electronic magnifier, a scanner and a printer. Computers in the room are installed with screen reading software in English and Chinese.
The Enquiries Counter handles library card applications. It is located on the 2/F of the Main Library New Wing and registration service is available until 30 minutes prior to closing.
Books returned through this automated book return will be automatically checked in and updated in the user’s library account in real time, even when the library is closed. The system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
