Online Reading List

You may make persistent or durable links to specific book titles or journal articles for your online teaching materials which you can easily direct your students or other members of your research group to the required or suggested readings. Usually the electronic library materials can be linked by three options:

1. Copy the URL that is showing in your browser's "Location" (in Netscape) or "Address" (in Internet Explorer) window (the URL should begin with http://). e.g Catalogue Record, Apabi e-book, AACR Journals Online etc.

2. Some publishers provide the persistent URL or stable URL. Persistent URL is a type of URL that acts as an intermediary for a real URL of a Web resource. The real address of the web page may change but the PURL remains the same. e.g. Biomed Central, EBSCOhost research databases, JSTOR etc.

3. Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is also provided by some publishers. The DOI may be used to cite and link to electronic documents. The DOI consists of a unique alpha-numeric character string which is assigned to a document by the publisher upon the initial electronic publication. The DOI will never change. Therefore, it is an ideal medium for citing a document. e.g. ACM, Cambridge Journals Online, Synergy etc.
