Booking Policy

 

General Rules

  1. The library has the final decision in the allocation of facilities should there be any disputes.
  2. Timeslots are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis except single study rooms and research carrels for higher degree students.
  3. Users must sign in on-site to activate the reserved session or facility.
  4. Patrons, upon signing in a booking, have priority to use the reserved facility.

 

Single study rooms and research carrels

  1. Single study rooms and research carrels for HKU higher degree students
    • (I) 7 study rooms on 2/F and 29 research carrels with lockers in the Study Zone of Level 3 are available for higher degree students of the University of Hong Kong for study and research inside the Main Library.
    • (II) Booking period is for half a month.
    • (III) Application procedure is as follows:
      • (i) Application for the 1st half of each month: between 16th and 25th of the preceding month
      • (ii) Application for the 2nd half of each month: between 1st and 11th of the same month
      • (iii) A draw will take place to allocate these spaces. Successful applicants will be informed by email. Online confirmation is required before 15th (for 2nd half month booking) and 29th (for 1st half month booking). The study room or research carrel must be activated onsite within the first 3 days of the booking period. Otherwise, the facility will be considered as unclaimed and will be allocated to students on the waiting list in sequential order.
  2. Single study rooms for current HKU/SPACE students and staff
    • (I) There are 11 study rooms on 4/F for current HKU/SPACE students and staff.
    • (II) Booking period is for three sessions per day.
    • (III) Rooms can be booked one session in advance. Each session runs from 4 to 5 hours.
    • (IV) Unclaimed rooms will be released for reservation 60 minutes after a session has started.
  3. Research carrels for full time law research postgraduate students (Law Library)
  4. Single study rooms for medical postgraduate/undergraduate students (Medical Library)

 

Computers

  1. Each user is eligible to book a maximum of 4 sessions per day. Each session is 30 minutes.
  2. Computers can be booked one day in advance.
  3. Users MUST NOT leave their personal belongings unattended. Library staff has the right to remove such belongings without prior notice.

 

Discussion Rooms and AV Viewing Room (Main Library 1/F)

  1. Each user is eligible to book a maximum of 4 sessions per day. Each session is 30 minutes.
  2. The rooms can be booked one day in advance.
  3. Booking is available for current HKU/SPACE students and staff only.
  4. Users should check in on-site within the first 15 minutes of the first session. This will activate all consecutive sessions under that booking. Sessions not activated within the first 15 minutes will be released for reservation by other users.
  5. Users MUST NOT leave their personal belongings unattended. Library staff has the right to remove such belongings without prior notice.

 

Study tables

  1. Each session ranges from 4 to 5 hours.
  2. Study tables can be booked one session in advance.
  3. Each user can reserve one session. The following session can be booked upon successful sign-in of the current session.
  4. Reservation for the study tables is open to current staff, students and alumni.
  5. Study tables in the deep quiet room in the Main Library are strictly for reading and study only. Use of computers or audiovisual equipment is not allowed.
  6. Sessions not activated within the first 60 minutes will be released for reservation by other users.
