Trial of Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) Ten Year Backfile

Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) is one of the core collections of the Web of Science. It covers over 5000 academic journals over the fields of scientific, social science, and humanities trends and developments.

ESCI is now offered a ten year backfile trial which goes back to 2005. It adds over 7,500 new journals to the Web of Science Core Collection from over 100 countries and more than 2,700 publishers represented. Furthermore, 80% of the research output is from outside North-America and the majority of the journals is focused on Social Sciences and Arts and Humanities.

The highlights of the backfile are as follows:

  • Coverage from 2005 of over 5,000 unique journal titles with over 1.4 million new records
  • An inclusion of over 100 journals from mainland China with 10% of them in Chinese
  • A double-digit percentage increase in content covering over 30 unique research fields
  • An expansion of the focus on Social Sciences and Arts & Humanities
  • Nearly 10,000 records (2005-2016) contributed by scholars in Hong Kong and Macau

The trial of the database is now available at HKUL until 21st March, 2018. Interested HKUL users can access the trial via: <http://lib.hku.hk/cgi-bin/trial/index.cgi>

Upon entering Web of Science, you may select multiple citation indexes or ESCI alone for searching:
